When D Flight Players Rule

August 14, 2012 by Jay McGillicuddy Leave a Comment

Campbells Scottish HihlandsCongratulations to Skip Gray and his stellar play of last Wednesday. He not only shot a “career round” he also defeated the A player in his foursome Jay McGillicuddy. He also finished 13th out of the 24 total golfers for low gross.

Also congrats to Dominick D’ Orio for grabbing honors on the par 3 15th away from A players Bob Trottier and Bill Wilson by carding a nice 3 as they bogeyed.

In this weeks story line we will focus on upcoming matches as the season draws to an end and races tighten up.

Team two who finished in first place the first half of this season plays against the leader of the second half, team 5. Team two led by Bob Trottier who has dominated the field this year by racking up birdies and shooting low scores takes on the ever steady George Vigneault. In both of their previous matches Trottier has defeated Vigneault 12-8 as Trottier shot even par in their last match up and two over back the end of May. We play the front nine again and this should be a great match as this match up could be seen as the forefront for the championship match-up.  Advantage Trottier.

George Duffield takes on Jim Waterman and Jim Waterman is definitely the most improved player this year over last year. Duffield has had his ups and downs as he has had some stellar rounds and not so good rounds. Duffield will need to bring his A game this week as this will be the first time they will match up in league play this year. Duffield is very familiar with Waterman as they play together often during the summer months on Sunday mornings. Duffield is in 2nd place this half of the season for the race to MVP and is only 10 points behind. Advantage Waterman.

Mike Berry will tee it up against Tom Hale and Hale will need to play real well if he plans on taking Berry to the limit. Hale will be getting four strokes and Hale will need to avoid big hole blowups as will Berry. They have not played against each other yet this year and this looks to be a decent match up and Hale needs to bring it as he will probably be playing Waterman for the Final MVP trophy. Advantage Berry.

In the final match up this week there will be a sub for Imlach and he will challenge Mike Landry and Landry has turned things around the last few weeks ever since he got his knee scoped the week of July 18. Advantage Landry

In other key match-ups this week we will see Steve King take on Jay McGillicuddy and McGillicuddy is a long shot in the race for MVP as he trails Waterman by 19 points with 2 weeks left. McGill and King have played 3 times and McGill leads 37-23 with 2 of the 3 weeks extremely close and the third was a blowout. Advantage Toss up.

Eric La Francis and Jim Marnie will pair up and La Francis has swept all three matches by an average of 2.66 points per match. So, you can tell this match will be close. La Francis has averaged 41.33 in his three matches against Marnie and Marnie has averaged 43.66 so you can see one triple bogey can make a big difference. Advantage La Francis

Erkan Duzenli will need a sub this week and he will be playing Paul Comeau and Comeau has started to catch on fire and should be primed for field day.

Dominick D’ Orio will take on Rich Juknavorian this week and both players seem to be struggling this half and it seems that when anyone plays Juke they seem to play their best.  Juke and Dom have played twice and they are within a point or two of each other. Advantage Toss up

Norm Pelletier and Bill Wilson will tee it up and these two usually have great matches and Pelletier will be looking for his team to get out of the cellar. In their previous 2 matches Wilson has won 13-7 and Pelletier won 11-9 in their 1st match. What’s interesting is their scores are even. Advantage to Wilson as he will be getting two strokes.

Glenn Acciard and Norm Comeau will do battle and Glenn will be getting a stroke and Acciard has lost 4 of the last 5 matches he has been in and looks like Acciard may have turned the corner. Comeau seems to do well one week and then is off a little the next week this half. This week is the off week for Comeau and I wonder if he will be able to bounce back.

Dennis Croteau will take on Rick Maloney this week and Croteau has been playing well of late and he deserves a big round of applause as he broke 80 for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Great job Dennis. Maloney has played Croteau as tough as anyone can. These guys are dead even on points against each other so far this season. They tied 10-10 and then each player won 11-9 so this will be a Toss Up.
Skip will be out this week and a sub will take on Vinny Serafino. Not sure yet who will be subbing but Vinny will be ready for whoever his challenger will be. Vinny has only lost twice this half and has been playing up to par.
