With one match left in the season and final field day less than a week away we can pretty much assume Team 5 consisting of George “the Player” Vigneault, “Dollar” Jim Waterman, Tom ” Comeback kid ” Hale and Mike “I love knee surgeries” Landry will clinch the second half championship this Wednesday.
So, this brings us to to Championship Saturday where first half Champs, Team 2 led by Captain Bob “the Birdie” Trottier, George “Hole in One” Duffield, Mike “I knew I was going to play H2O Man ” Berry, and Alan I’m Employed” Imlach take on Team 5 and if this past week’s matches were indicative of Championship Saturday then Team 2 will have a lot of work to do. In all fairness though Team 2 was missing Alan Imlach and he will be back come Saturday. His captain told him to practice and Trottier is hoping he did.
In this week’s feature match we saw Norm Pelletier take on Bill Wilson and play got off to a shaky start as Wilson doubled and Pelletier bogeyed. On two Wilson showed us his patented bomb and as we approached the green the apron was a little damp and balls stuck and we didn’t get the roll we all were hoping for. Both players parred. On three we had a short wait and Pelletier pulled out the hybrid and made a sweet swing and the ball stayed straight and nestled on the top tier of the green and Pelletier snagged closest too. Bummer that he missed the birdie putt. Wilson made 4 and Pelletier goes 2 up. On 4 both made pars and Wilson was stroking and cuts the lead to one. Both parred five as well and Wilson stroking again halves the match. On 6 both parred but on 7 an uncharacteristic double by Wilson allowed Pelletier to go one up with 2 to play. Wilson drove the green on 8 and Pelletier made an easy par. Wilson’s eagle putt was probably the most difficult putt anyone could have and to make matters worse Wilson 3 putted. A disappointed Wilson made bogey on 9 and Pelletier walked away with a 13-7 victory. Pelletier fired a nice 2 over 38 and Wilson carded 42.
So, I guess my predictions from last week matches didn’t fair too well as I predicted 2 out of the 5 matches I had picked. Oh well, there is always next week.
In the final week there won’t be too much up for grabs as it looks like team 5 is on their way to victory and Jim Waterman is on a roll and it will be tough for anyone to catch him.
Just remember there will be no handicap change after this week. But, your score will be counted for next years placement in the overall handicaps for team pairings for next season.
Have fun out there and good luck to everyone. Due to time constraints this will be short.
