The Cream rises to the top with Sneakers on

August 18, 2011 by Jay McGillicuddy 2 Comments

As the saying goes “cream rises to the top” and that is just what team 3 did, almost. Norm Pelletier, Eric La Francis, Mike Berry and Tom Hale surged toward the top of the leader board with a resounding victory over team 5 of Jay McGillicuddy, Norm Comeau, Glenn Acciard and Skip Gray, with the largest margin of victory by one team under our new scoring system. Pelletier’s team throttled the first place team by 40 points to catapult them to within 5 points of the league lead.

Pelletier (36) vs McGillicuddy (43)

This match was basically over before it started. Pelletier shot a one under par 35 against McGillicuddy on the front nine in their last match-up and followed up this week’s match with an even par 36. One under par against McGill in two matches is pretty impressive by any stretch of the imagination. McGill must bring the best out of Pelletier because Pelletier seems to play his best when playing McGill.

Pelletier reeled off 4 straight pars as McGill could only muster bogeys. Pelletier’s birdie 4 on the 5th brought back visions of their previous match. Pelletier’s 3 putt on 7 was his only blemish and a too strong birdie putt on 8 could have resulted in another under par round for Pelletier. Pelletier’s masterful performance was just the tip of the iceberg for his team. Pelletier wins convincingly 16-4.

La Francis (40) vs N. Comeau (41)

La Francis and Comeau were playing straight up and after both players bogeyed the first hole Comeau double bogeyed the 2nd which proved to be his downfall in this match. After winning the 3rd hole Comeau gave it back on the 5th as La Francis birdied but Comeau made in interesting by winning the 6th hole. He evened the match play portion of the match but was still one down in strokes. They both bogeyed, parred and bogeyed the last 3 holes and La Francis walked away with a nice 11-9 victory.

Berry (41) vs Acciard (50)

Both these players came into this match red hot and one of them had to be cooled off and such was the case with Acciard as his BIG winning ways finally came to an end. Berry teed off before his captain Pelletier and Berry blazed the trail for his team as he jumped out to a 3 up lead after 3 and they both halved 4 but Berry continued to put the hammer down as he won 5 and 6. Acciard broke through with a win on 7 but Berry’s birdie on 8 and par on 9 finished Acciard off with a 17-3 pummeling.

Hale (42) vs Gray (51)

The biggest surprise of the day was the stellar performance by Tom “I’m coming back” Hale as he jumped all over Skip Gray early by winning the first 3 out of 5 holes.  Gray squeaked in a victory on the 6th with a real nice par but Gray couldn’t keep it going as Hale went one over par on the way in. Hale forgetting his golf shoes wore sneakers and found he had to slow his swing down and showed us all how good he can really play.  Hale triumphs 16-4.

That is how the cream rises to the top with sneakers on. Congrats to Team Pelletier for getting back in the hunt. The next two weeks will be exiting… more stories to come soon from this weeks matches.
