Wednesday will tell it all

June 2, 2012 by Jay McGillicuddy 2 Comments

Yes, we have now come to the final week of the first half of the 2012 Wilderness Golf season and who will capture first place?

First we should give credit to Norm “Shark” Comeau for urging us to change the scoring system we were stuck in for the last 20 years. Our new system has really brought us some exciting matches for team standings and MVP races. “Every shot counts is our new motto.”

This week Team 6, McGill, Marnie, Paul Comeau and Juknavorian tee off against Team 2 Trottier, Berry, Duffield and Imlach. Team 6 has a slight 8-point lead over Team 2 and look for Team 2 to put the crunch on to try and over take Team 6. In their previous meeting Team 2 defeated Team 6 by 4 points 42 to 38. But, McGill did not play as he was out with a back injury and his sub was trounced 14-6. Look for McGill to have a good round as his play has improved and he will be getting two strokes from Trottier this week.  Marnie defeated Berry last time 14-6 and Berry has improved as well and as long as Marnie doesn’t blow up on one hole then this match should be a lot closer. Duffield drubbed P. Comeau and Duffield has really come around this year and Comeau will really need to step it up to keep up with Duffield. Juke had a scare against Imlach last time and only won 12-8. Juke is on a roll and Imlach has started to come around as well and this will be closer than most may think. My prediction Team 6 will slip by Team 2 …41-39.

In the hunt close behind is Team 4 King, La Francis, Duzenli and D’ Orio take on Team 1 Pelletier, Acciard, Croteau and Gray. Team 1 defeated Team 4 in their previous matchup by 6 points 43-37. Team 1 was without their B player La Francis.

Team 4 is only 9 points out of first and with a big victory over Team 1 they just may catapult themselves to victory over Team 6 & Team 2 but Team 1 will see that it does not happen as they are 28 points behind and need some great golf from their team mates to make things respectable. Team 4 will defeat Team 1 in a close match 42-38.

In the final matchup Team 3 Wilson, Norm Comeau, Rick Maloney and “My Cousin Vinny” Serafino match up against Team 5 Vigneault, Waterman, Landry and Hale. Team 5 is only 13 points out and Team 3 just came out of the cellar and is looking to whip some butt this week. In their previous match Team 3 won by 10 points. With Wilson being injured in back to back weeks and with a broken toe was able to shoot his best round of the year with a very nice 2 over par 37 last week. His best round since July 20th of last year. Team 3 will win this round 42-38.

So, in the final analysis Team 6 will win the first half and I guess I am a little partial to Team 6.

Who do you think will win the first half?

Good overview on standing. I think you are right team 6 will take first place this half. Also think the scoring method we now have has kept it more interesting and setting up the teams made the team handicaps closer.
