The sun never came out but what else is new it’s Wednesday.
Another bunch of great rounds this week but we were playing the back nine. The back nine on average yields an average of 3.25 strokes less than the front nine based on all the players in the league. To find your individual average go to individual players average.
In some key matchups we saw Bill Wilson giving Steve King 3 strokes and they finished, Wilson 38 King 41. There’s your 3 strokes. King’s birdie on 18 helped him square the match. Wilson is still not happy as his birdie on 16 was not enough to win the hole.
Acciard trips up Norm Comeau as Comeau falters at the 10th, 16th and 18th. Acciard’s birdie on 15 seems to have turned the tide in this match.
Rick Maloney had a tight match with Tom Hale but Hale forgets to show up on 13 as he breaks the record for the highest score on a single hole, 16. Even Rick tried to give him a 50 ft. putt. Tom used to be in the A flight yrs. ago.
Paul Comeau showed his MVP ways as he drubs Steve Spratt by 14 strokes. Spratt did win a couple of holes which helped his team take total holes 13-12.
Norm Pelletier ran into a buzz saw named Bob Trottier as Trottier fires a two over 37 with 3 birdies 5 bogeys and 1 par. If only….
George Vigneault returned to his winning ways as he slips past Jim Waterman. George’s hand must be healed.
Steve Maddox and Bob Cairns battled to a split as Maddox triples 14 and doubles 18 . Cairns’ biggest mistake was teeing off on 10 as he stumbled to an 8 on that hole and a triple on 12 were key factors in only taking 2 points.
Rich Juknavorian and Skip Gray had a great match as Gray’s 9 on 10 motivates him to come back and sweep Juke. Gray said after the tenth hole that he would win. Now that’s fortitude.
Jay McGillicuddy and Jim Marnie battled tooth and nail as Marnie’s long birdie putt on 10 made a liar out of him as he said to McGill a few minutes before that as to how bad he had putted on Sunday. Marnie’s triple bogey on 12 was the big difference here as Marnie had 2 birdies. A well played match as Marnie’s nerve racking ten foot putt on 18 saved the match as it helped save the split 2-2.
Mike Berry and Bob Sasso also played a tight match as Sasso’s double on 10 and bogeys on 12,14, 16, and 18 weren’t enough as Berry’s steady play led to 3 points. These two always seem to play tight matches.
Mike Landry continued to grab points every week except week 6 where he was shut out by Steve Maddox, this week Landry tripped up Dave Murphy as Murphy stumbled on 14 and 16.
Alan Imlach showed why he is co-MVP this first half of the year as he stomped newcomer Jack Goulet by 6 strokes but he was giving him 3. Jack met his demise on the always treacherous 14 as he scored a ten and dropped 4 strokes on that one hole to Imlach. That could have been the difference in this match.
Sometimes only one hole can be your downfall. Take it from one who knows.
See ya all Wednesday.
