Congratulations to Mike Berry for firing a perfect 36 on the front nine Wednesday as he had a birdie and a bogey. His opponent was Norm Comeau and Comeau came in with a 9 over par 45. Berry started off with a nice par and Comeau turned it around and made a sweet birdie on the 2nd hole to even the match. With pars on 3 and 4 and and a nice birdie on 5 Berry was on a roll and jumped out to a 3 up lead. Comeau fought back hard and could only halve the next two holes with Berry and then Berry kept pouring it on with pars on 8 and 9 and Comeau could only muster a couple of bogeys on his way in. Berry 16 Comeau 4
In the featured match of the day we saw Skip Gray take on Rich Juknavorian and this was no match at all. Skip Gray pummeled Juke as Juke could not get the straight stick working at all. They both bogeyed one and on two both doubled and you could already sense Juke was not putting well but Gray was hitting the ball well and you could see this was not going to go well for Juke. On three Juke had an 18″ putt for par and it slid right by. Another lost opportunity. On paper you would think Juke would have walked away with this match but we all know it is played on the course on any given Wednesday. Hats off to Gray as he stroked on 4 & 5 and went three up and on 6 Gray wins again and closes out Juke 4-3. On 7 Gray wins again with a bogey and Juke could only muster a double and on 8 and 9 Juke and Gray halved with bogeys. Gray wins going away 16-4. Gray 48 Juke 50.
Glenn Acciard took on Jim Marnie and this match started off great for Acciard as he birdied the first hole and Marnie bogeyed. Acciard gave it right back as he doubled the 2nd hoe and Marnie parred. Acciard bounced right back by birding the par 3 third and Marnie parred. Marnie squared the match with a bogey and they halved the par 5 5th with doubles. Marnie parred 6 and Acciard tripled and Marnie goes one up. They halve 7 and Acciard pars 8 & 9 win this close match 11-9. Acciard 45 Marnie 45.
Dennis Croteau teed off against Paul Comeau and this match was dead even. Croteau jumped out to a two up lead and they halved the par 3 third. Then Comeau went on a tear and won 4, 5, and 6 to take a one up lead. They halved the 7th and Croteau took 8 with a nice par as Comeau bogeyed to halve the match. They both double the uphill par 4 and and this match is all square. Croteau 44 Comeau 47.
Bob Trottier and Bill Wilson teed it up and they both started off safely with pars but on two Trottier made a not too often double and Wilson parred to go one up. On the downhill par three Trottier pars and on 4 Wilson bounces right back with a win on 4 and they halved the par 5 5th but Wilson was stroking and goes 2 up. On 6 Wilson shanks one into the woods and makes his first triple bogey of the season. Trottier pars 7 to halve the match. Wilson pars 8 and Trottier who usually birdies 8 bogeys and is one down. Wilson birdies 9 and closes out Trottier and wins going away 13-7. Trottier 42 Wilson 40.
Norm Pelletier took on Jay McGillicuddy and this was again one of their classic battles. Pelletier made an easy par as McGill messed up his approach shot and Pelletier goes one up. They halve 2 but McGill got a stroke and McGill halves the match. On 3 Pelletier pars and McGill bogeys and Pelletier is one up. On 4 McGill bombs his drive but it hits the cart path and trickles into the hazard. McGill makes bogey but gets another stroke and they halve this hole. Pelletier birdies the par 5 fifth and McGill pars and they halve that hole as well. Pelletier is one up and as they head to 6 McGill bogeys and Pelletier doubles and the match is all square. on 7 McGill makes a fantastic chip shot from the right side of the green and the ball rides the crest of the hill and stays up and McGill drains the par putt to go one up. On 8 both played to the left side of the green and they came up short and McGill reached the trap. Pelletier’s chip came up short and a strong birdie putt left Pelletier close to the hole and both players walked away with pars. On 9 McGill ripped a drive up the middle and was a pitching wedge away. Pelletier and McGill make pars and McGill takes this one 12-8. Pelletier 40 McGill 42.
George Duffield matched up against Rick Maloney and Duffield jumped out to a one up lead with a par on one. They both parred 2 but Maloney stroked and evened the match. They halved three and then Maloney stepped it up and grabbed 4 & 5 as Duffield slipped and needed to turn things around quickly. On 6 Duffield started his comeback as he went on a tear from 7-9 as he parred in to walk away with this match 13-7. Duffield 44 Maloney 47.
Alan Imlach matched up against Vinny Serafino and this match started off even as both players parred one and then Imlach went one up as he parred two. On three the wheels fell off for Imlach as a dreaded 9 on a par three just doesn’t cut t for any player. Match all square needless to say. On the tough par 4 4th Imlach bounced back and took this away from Serafino. Serafino turned it around and captured the 5th and 6th to go one up. Imlach said no way and won 7 to go one up. They halved 8 and then Serafino won it all as bogeyed the 9th. Serafino wins 12- 8. Imlach 55 Serafino 50. That 9 on 3 killed Imlach.
Steve King and George Vigneault paired off and Vigneault darted out to a 3 up lead as he parred 1, 2, and 3 while King bogeyed all 3. Both players halved 4, 5, 6, and 7. Vigneault made a great birdie on 8 and King parred 9 to take two crucial points for his team. Vigneault 14 King 6. These two also shot very well as Vigneault shot a on over 37 and King was not far behind as his 3 over 39 was not good enough this day. Look for a great re-match.
Eric La Francis took on Jim Waterman and this match was real close as both players fought each other tough as the halved the first 3 holes. La Francis broke out first with pars on 4 and 5 but La Francis stumbled with a double on 6 and a triple on 7. Both players halved 8 and 9 and Waterman squeaks out an 11-9 victory. La Francis 44 Waterman 41. 6 and 7 were La Francis’ downfall.
Erkan Duzenli and Tom Hale sparred off this week and they halved the first hole and the Duzenli jumped out to a one up lead on two. Hale turned it around and captured three. They halved 4 and then Duzenli won 5 and 6 as Hale slipped back into his old ways. Hale won 7 and they halved 8 with pars and then Hale grabbed the 9th but the 8 on the par 5 5th did Hale in as Duzenli wins 11-9. Duzenli 44 Hale 47.
