Another perfect night

July 17, 2012 by Jay McGillicuddy Leave a Comment

This time it was Bob Trottier pitching another perfect game against the tough right-hander from Myrtle Beach, George Vigneault.  Trottier and Vigneault shared pars and then Trottier parred the 2nd hole as Vigneault made his first mistake by bogeying. On 3 both walked away with pars. On 4 both parred but Vigneault was stoking and Vigneault tied the match up. The par 5 fifth saw Trottier birdie but Vigneault was stroking again and they halved this hole. The 6th saw Vigneault bogey and Trottier par and then on 7 both bogeyed and Trottier was back to even par. Trottier usually birdies 8 but both parred out and Trottier slips by an honest Vigneault as Vigneault called a penalty on himself which may have cost him the match. I guess Vigneault inadvertently moved his ball and a one stroke penalty was assessed by Vigneault. Well done George. Trottier 12 Vigneault 8.  Trottier 36 Vigneault 39. Great match.

In the featured match this week we saw Norm Comeau take on Glenn Acciard. Well this was the week that was for Comeau as he played a career round. Comeau started off with a nice par and went one up. On two Comeau was on the front of the green and just barely missed an eagle and a tap in birdie put Comeau two up. A slight hiccup on three brought Comeau back to even par and Acciard bogeyed as well. A much needed point for Acciard and then on 4 both parred. On the par 5 fifth Comeau birdied again and now had reeled off 5 straight 4’s. Acciard parred. Comeau 3 up. On 6 Comeau carded another 4 and Acciard carded a 5.  Comeau closes Acciard out 4/3. On 7 Comeau missed a 6 footer for par and carded another 4. On 8 both players carded yes another 4 and then on 9 Comeau was 4 feet away and a par 4 putt slipped by and Comeau failed to make a perfect round of all 4’s. Comeau wins big 14-6. Acciard 42 Comeau 37.

Norm Pelletier and Bill “I do wear shorts more than once a week” Wilson teed it up and both players halved the first hole. Wilson parred two and went one up. On 3 they halved and then on 4 Wilson parred and Pelletier bogeyed and Wilson is now 2 up. On the par 5 5th both parred but Wilson was getting a blow and found himself three up. On 6 Wilson made a great birdie and closed out Pelletier 4/3. Pelletier came back and won two of the last three holes as Wilson was perfect thru the first 6 holes and then Wilson slipped and made three final bogeys to end up with a nice 3 over par 39 and Pelletier fired a 40.  Pelletier 7 Wilson 13.

Dennis Croteau and Rick Maloney played another great match as Croteau jumped out to a two up lead with a nice birdie on two by Croteau. Maloney charged back to grab 3 and 4 and Croteau nabbed 5 and they halved 6 and Maloney won 7 to halve the match. Croteau won 8 and Maloney won 9 and Maloney took the strokes and they halved holes won. Croteau 9 Maloney 11. Croteau 46 Maloney 46. Maloney was getting two strokes.

Bob Cairns subbed for Skip Gray and he faced Vinny Serafino. Cairns was no match this week for Serafino as Serafino crushed Cairns. Serafino jumped out to win the first 6 holes and Cairns didn’t give up and grabbed 2 of the last three holes. Serafino crushes 16-4 Cairns 59 Serafino 48.

Mike Berry took on Jim waterman and Berry wished he had kept some of the magic that he had the week before. They halved one and Berry took two and that was the end for Berry as Waterman cruised to a 15-5 victory. Berry shoots a disappointing 44 as Waterman makes a splash with a three over 39. Looks like Waterman is rounding into form as we close out this season with 6 weeks left.

George Duffield teed it up against Tom Hale and Duffield is playing like his old self. Duffield wins the first 3 out of five holes and Hale salvaged a win on 6 but Duffield was too strong for Hale and Duffield wins going away 16-4. Duffield 39 Hale 53.

Alan Imlach took on Mike Landry and Landry was going in for knee surgery within a day or two of playing Imlach and should be back this Wednesday to play his next match. But, in this match Imlach took a one up lead but Landry bounced right back to take 2 and 3 and a one up lead. On 4 Imlach was stroking and won that hole but from then on in it was all Landry.  Landry cruised on in by winning the 5th, 6th and 8th hole while halving 7 and 9. Landry wins big 14-6. Imlach 58 Landry 48.

Steve King and Jay McGillicuddy squared off and these two played 36 holes together on Friday the 6th and King was looking for revenge. King started off with a victory on two as they both botched their pars on one and McGill was in the trap in front of the green on two and knifed his shot into the tall grass behind the green. McGill made a triple and King a bogey. On 3 McGill found the trap again and King launched his tee ball OB. McGill ties the match. On 4 McGill hits the cart path for the second week in a row and finds his ball a couple of feet from the tall grass. Both par and on 5 McGill splashes his tee ball and King finds the middle of the fairway. Both end up with bogeys and McGill stroked and wins the hole. King played the par four 6th very well and tied the match up and then went one up with a par on 7 as McGill bogeyed. Both halved 8 and McGill sent a rocket up the 9th and missed a birdie by a few inches and King trying to get used to his new sticks launched his approach shot over the green. With McGill already in with a par King needed a bogey to win the match, a poor 3rd shot and a short approach putt left King with a 4-5 footer for bogey and the match. King’s put slid by and this match ended in a tie. They may not have played their best golf but they played their hearts out. King 44 McGill 45.

Eric La Francis and Jim Marnie matched up this week and this was an exciting match as they seesawed back and forth as La Francis started off with a double bogey on one and Marnie parred. On 2 the long hitting La Francis birdied and halved the match as Marnie bogeyed.  La Francis wins the par 3 third with a bogey as Marnie scores a triple bogey. They halved the long par 4 4th.
Marnie evens the match up with a nice birdie on 5 and jumps out to a one up lead on 6. Both players halved 7 and 8 and on 9 the long ball hitter La Francis proved his worth and birdied the 9th and captured an 11-9 victory as Marnie bogeyed. Great match La Francis 39 Marnie 41.

Erkan Duzenli and Paul Comeau teed it up and again we saw another close match as these guys tied 10-10. They halved the first and Comeau jusmped out and won 2 and 3. But, Duzenli won big on the 4th as Comeau took the dreaded X (10) spot to let Duzenli back into the match. This hole may haunt Comeau as it was the turning point in the match. They halved the 5th but Comeau was stroking and remained two up. Duzenli won 6 ad 8 and they halved 7. Comeau snagged 9 but the 10 on 4 did come back to haunt him as Duzenli wins strokes. Duzenli 49 Comeau 52.

Dominick D’ Orio and Rich Juknavorian teed off against each other and it was all D’ Orio as Juke seems to be slumping of late. Juke started off with a nice par and a one up lead but D’ Orio won the next three out of four. Juke tried to make a comeback on 6 but D’ Orio went on to win the 7th and 8th. Juke salvaged 2 points for his team and D’ Orio wins the match 13-7. D’Orio 52 Juknavorian 49.

Some great matches upcoming on the 18th.
